For the fifth consecutive year, Shelby County Schools has been named a “Best Community for Music Education” by the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) Foundation. This designation is awarded to school districts that have shown an outstanding commitment to music education in their academic curriculum.
“This designation is really important for the Memphis and Shelby County Community,” said Dru Davison, SCS Fine Arts Advisor. “It demonstrates that we value the rich cultural heritage of this area, and we are committed to teaching students to be the next generation of creative thinkers.”
For nearly two decades, the NAMM Foundation has singled out districts for outstanding efforts by teachers, administrators, parents, students and community leaders who have made music education part of the core curriculum.
“We commend the districts and schools that have earned the Best Community designation this year. They join with so many that believe as we do that there is a vital link between do-rei-me and the ABCs,” said Mary Luehrsen, Executive Director of the NAMM Foundation.
