Local tech startup celebrates milestone

In the world of startups, anniversaries are big deal. That’s mostly because statistics show that 90 percent of tech startups fail. Memphis-based eBiz Solutions celebrated ten years of business in May, and they attribute their longevity to a commitment to innovation and a hunger for growth.

Started in 2005 by Poornima Sunkara as a way to help small businesses and nonprofits with their website needs, eBiz has since grown from a small web development company into a team of more than 100 programmers and innovators. The company has staff both here in Memphis and in India.

Sunkara’s husband, Sridhar Sunkara, joined the company full-time in 2012 as CEO and the growth has continued.

"When we first started eBiz, the Internet was still young and companies were just starting to take advantage of its ubiquitous connectivity,” said Sridhar Sunkara. “Now, we're effectively putting computers and the Internet inside of products – phones, watches – and mobile and cloud technology is transforming the corporate landscape. We're doing things people never would have dreamed of a decade ago.”

The company now provides a large array of technology consulting services, ranging from design, to development, to search engine optimization and beyond. They have worked with more than 250 clients locally, nationally and internationally.

“We do not have any single specialty,” said Sunkara. “It’s our job to work with our clients to help them navigate the digital realm and provide solutions that support their short and long-term business goals. We provide the technology and the skills to improve their communication with customers which, in turn, improves their bottom line.”

The company’s success can be attributed in part to their investment into research and development. Sridhar and his team are constantly innovating. Currently projects include the development of an app that uses healthcare data and statistics to improve the overall health of a specific area, and proximity marketing, or iBeacon technologies, where you can walk into a store and your phone is alerted to sales or other information.
