Sprouts Farmers Market is expanding into the Greater Memphis market next year with a new store in Germantown as part of the next wave of the company’s geographic expansion.
“We’ve long heard Memphis residents asking for a Sprouts in their neighborhood,” says company spokesperson Donna Egan. “Germantown city demographics represent the traditional Sprouts shopper – educated and middle to upper-middle income residents. We have been eyeing the opportunity for a while, and are excited to bring affordable and fresh, natural and organic foods to the area.”
The store will bring approximately 100 new jobs to the area sometime next year. In the past year, Sprouts has opened 24 new stores, and Egan says the company will continue open new stores at a 14 percent growth rate per year.
“Unlike most natural food retailers, we’re highly promotional across the store, which creates value,” Egan says. “While traditionally, specialty foods stores appealed to the affluent or hard-core natural foods shopper, Sprouts caters to everyone – from foodies to novices – looking for fresh, natural and organic foods at affordable prices.”
The store will compete with other grocers in the area like
Whole Foods Market, Aldi and a newly renovated Kroger’s store (under construction now).
Sprouts, which opened its first store in Chandler, Ariz. in 2002, currently operates more than 180 stores in 10 states. In early 2015 the company will open new stores in Bakersfield, Calif.; Birmingham, Ala.; Cumming, Ga.; Daly City, Calif.; Liberty, Mo.; Scottsdale, Ariz.; and South Jordan, Utah.
