If the saying is true — that the clothing makes the man — then Michael Wolf, co-founder of
6figure, believes that adage also holds true for women, especially those in competitive corporate fields.
“It takes just seven seconds to create a first impression,” said Wolf. “The highly demanding corporate world necessitates that women project a credible, polished, and professional image daily.”
Wolf said that for women to achieve that professional polish, they are often overwhelmed by the 3,000 or more choices tagged as "business appropriate" by online department stores such as Nordstrom and Bloomingdales.
6figure has simplified that online shopping experience by curating well-made staples and accessories for women in the corporate business environment. Wolf’s goal is to save women time and frustration by offering categories tailored to specific careers, as well as styles pertaining to different business occasions and office cultures.
“One of our attorney clients reported that she saved valuable time and experienced lower frustration in acquiring the perfect professional attire needed to advance her career,” said Wolf.
When asked why she chose Memphis and Start Co. as places to launch her business, Wolf said, “Start Co. was a once in a lifetime opportunity for me to grow as a company and as an individual. I started the program during my last week of college finals (Rhodes College) where I was thrown promptly into a slew of chaos and excitement. I knew I had nothing to lose except regret if I did not join this unique program."
Within Start Co, she was a part of the ‘Upstart’ program, the accelerator program that supports women-led teams. "It takes an immense amount of courage to lead a company and 1,000 times more to start one as a woman. Not only was I able to work with incredible mentors and teams, but I was guided and supported by a group of fantastic women in the program. This vibrant and supportive community was the most essential part of this experience. Our mantra here is to ‘never stop’ and that holds true for any aspiring entrepreneur who wants to make a positive impact in the world. Memphis has been a perfect place to start due to the growing family of passionate entrepreneurs, incredible firms reaching out to support us, and the creative, bubbling city itself."
Wolf is now raising capital for seed funding. Currently this is a solo venture, without other employees, but Wolf consults with a team of mentors and a fashion panel that includes local blogger and photographer Kim Thomas and Brian Ingram, a Chicago stylist.
