How this Memphis cybersecurity firm found new business partnerships in Nigeria

What’s happening: A Memphis-based cybersecurity firm has gone international, finding success in not just West Tennessee but now West Africa. The company credits the Memphis office of a nationwide program in helping it enter the international market.

Who they are: Founded in 1998, the Memphis-based Security Tapestry is a Managed Security Services Provider that offers cybersecurity services to businesses. Those include cybersecurity threat hunting, threat intelligence, and threat detection engineering.

What they did: Recognizing a demand for cybersecurity services overseas, Security Tapestry first entered the West African market in 2019 in search of business partnerships in Nigeria. It was recently announced that a 2023 meeting has resulted in Security Tapestry signing a partnership agreement with Cloudspace Nigeria Ltd.

How they did it: Security Tapestry’s success abroad has its roots in the Commercial Service (CS) Memphis office, a division of the International Trade Administration of the U.S. Department of Commerce. The Commercial Service initiative is a nationwide program that connects American companies with the networking and resources that can lead to better opportunities in exporting, expanding to international markets, and more. For Security Tapestry, that included participation in a 2019 CS event called USA Fair: Access Nigeria; virtual introductions to potential partners in 2022, which was organized by CS Memphis and CS Lagos; and, in 2023, participation in CS’s Global Diversity Export Initiative (GDEI) Trade Mission to Africa, which resulted in their newly announced partnership there.

What they’re saying: “CS Memphis has been a tremendous resource for us during our export journey,” says Security Tapestry’s Executive Director. “CS Memphis has supported us with information, brought opportunities to join events, and kept us connected to CS Lagos. CS Lagos did a great job with the GDEI trade mission.”
