What’s happening: A grand opening celebration was held on Thursday, July 20, at the newly renovated senior building at College Park Apartments. That’s where project stakeholders joined residents to celebrate the opening of Matter Health, a new primary care clinic for low-income senior residents of the community there.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on Thursday, July 20, for the new Matter Health clinic at College Park.
What it is: Primary care provider Matter Health has opened a physical and mental health clinic that offers wellness exams, chronic care management, lab services, preventative screenings, prescription management, specialty care referrals, and more. A new patient lounge and exam room are among the amenities.
Who it’s for: The Matter Health clinic serves those senior building residents who qualify for both Medicare and Medicaid. Says Matter Health president and co-founder Austin Sohr, “There are strong early indicators that bringing convenient, holistic care to the home drives better outcomes and a better experience for those we serve.”
Who’s behind it: The Memphis Housing Authority (MHA) and Knight Development, the two organizations responsible for inviting Matter Health to College Park, have been rehabilitating the apartments there, part of a larger $70M project rehabilitating 472 units as affordable housing in the Uptown and College Park neighborhoods.
Why it’s important: “The barriers to holistic healthcare are plentiful for older adults in affordable housing communities such as College Park. Our mission with Matter Health is to solve this problem,” says Mason Mercy, co-founder and CEO of Matter Health. “A lack of education and easy, immediate access to care creates poor outcomes and a high-cost strain on the system. We exist to serve these individuals most in need of quality healthcare through a convenient, location-based system.”
