Bring It Food Hub, a Mid-South multi-farm CSA (community supported agriculture) nonprofit and affiliate of Memphis Tilth, is entering its Summer 2016 season in bulk. Founded in 2013, Bring It Food Hub has reached historic records of number and reach each season. Much can be attributed to Memphis’ joint interest in supporting farmer livelihoods and expanding access to healthy food options.
“At this point in our calendar last year, approximately 60 season shares had been purchased,” said Bring It’s new Executive Director Carol Colter. “Today, we have surpassed 200 shares—and we still have five weeks to go before the season officially begins on
May 3.”
The market’s overwhelming response has motivated the organization to advance across all mediums. In addition to weekly produce shares, the summer season will offer add-on shares that include locally grown and sourced bread, eggs, cheese, and fresh-cut flowers. Subscriptions can be purchased on a monthly or season-long basis from May through November.
“Gardening isn’t for everyone, but fresh produce is,” said Colter. “We want to make Bring It Food Hub as convenient and accessible as possible to
all Memphians.”
Though over three dozen weekly pick-up locations are available citywide, Bring It also now offers a home delivery option for Midtown—where many new and repeat customers live—
on Friday afternoons.
A significant staple of Bring It Food Hub’s mission is its Pay It Forward program, which delivers shares to food in-secure homes through partnerships with neighborhood-level community organizations. Twice-a-month cooking classes will begin in May, with proceeds benefiting Pay It Forward.
“As we continue to grow subscribers, we can simultaneously grow and fulfill our mission to provide a bounty of produce to food in-secure homes across Memphis,” said Colter. “We encourage our customers to think about subscribing for someone who can’t. The impact is empowering.”
