After the groundbreaking for construction on a new Adult Fitness Zone in July this year,
Audubon Park celebrated a ribbon-cutting for the project this week. The Adult Fitness Zone is the culmination of a year long commitment by Meta, the makers of Metamucil®, to encourage Memphis residents to take small steps to make healthy changes in their lifestyle.
Common Table Health Alliance, Memphis' health and health care improvement collaborative, facilitated the funding deal. Public private partnerships between the City of Memphis, Common Table Health Alliance and Meta have also led to wellness workshops, health fairs and education seminars focused on making minor lifestyle changes to lead to better overall health.
The Adult Fitness Zone features ten pieces of equipment that offer aerobic, muscle and strength, core and balance elements that can help provide a well rounded fitness routine. Demonstrations of the equipment were offered after the ribbon cutting.
Joining Mayor A C Wharton, Jr. at the ceremony was: Shelby County Mayor Mark Luttrell; Michelle Vaeth, Associate Director of Communication for Procter and Gamble; Luke Cavanaugh, Game Time and Margaret “Peg” Thorman Hartig, PHD, APRN, FAANP Board Chair of Common Table Health Alliance.
